When In Living Color debuted in 1990, it was a cultural phenomenon. As the brainchild of comedian/producer/director Keenan Ivory Wayans, In Living Color was a cutting-edge sketch comedy series that set the blueprint for shows like The Chappelle Show, Key and Peele, and Mad T.V. to follow.
In its five-year run, the show launched the careers of Damon Wayans, Jamie Foxx, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, Jim Carrey, Kim Coles, Kim Wayans, Kelly Cofield Park, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh. In Living Color was grounding breaking in featuring Hip-Hop artists for live performances, some for the very first time.
The iconic show also introduced Carrie Ann Inaba and Jennifer Lopez as members of the dance troupe “The Fly Girls,” choreographed by Rosie Perez. Now, it’s reported that the pilot episode of the popular series will be screened at the 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival.
The festival, which will take place from April 24 to May 5, will for the first time celebrate anniversaries and milestones of iconic television shows as part of its Tribeca TV program, the festival said. In Living Color aired its final episode in 1994.
The In Living Color pilot is slated to screen in a theater on April 27, followed by a conversation with members of the cast, including the show’s creator Keenen Ivory Wayans and co-stars Shawn Wayans, Kim Wayans, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier and Rosie Perez, a press release stated.
“Twenty-five years after its finale, the cast and creator of the groundbreaking sketch comedy show ‘In Living Color’ will reunite to reflect on the Emmy Award-winning show that upended the landscape of television comedy and launched the careers of some of the greatest entertainers of our time,” the announcement read.
Tommy Davidson tweeted the news of the reunion with a classic photo that also featured other cast members. “Guess who’s getting together 4 @Tribeca FF 2019?” he wrote. “That’s right #InLivingColor gettin’ 2gether 4 reunion”
